A 15-year master plan for the National Museum of Ireland has been launched this week by the Minister for Culture & Heritage Josepha Madigan.

“Connecting our Past and our Future 2018-2032”  sets out a roadmap for the National Museum of Ireland over the next 15 years, with a masterplan for each of the 4 museum sites – including the National Museum of Country Life at Turlough, Castlebar.

In relation to the Turlough museum, the plan is to develop the site as a museum of Ireland’s social history, rather than continuing to focus on life in rural Ireland.

Exhibition spaces will be upgraded and expanded, while the site will also be developed to include additional parking facilities, and to provide greater connectivity within the site to the various Museum buildings.
