A Galway-based travel agent says the cancellation of Irish Ferries sailing to France this Summer on the new WB Yeats ferry is inexcusable, and is posing major disruption to holiday-makers.
Irish Ferries announced yesterday that sailings on the ferry have been cancelled until September, as the new vessel is not ready for service.
The company had already cancelled July sailings on the WB Yeats, but was hoping August bookings could be fulfilled.
However, the ferry is still in a German shipyard and will not be ready till September.
19,000 people across the country are affected by the decision to cancel 6,000 bookings on the WB Yeats.
Irish Ferries is offering customers refunds or alternative travel options.
Pearse Keller of Keller Travel, based in Ballinasloe, has over 100 families booked for holidays in France via the WB Yeats ferry, and told Midwest News that he and his staff are now busy trying to rearrange holiday packages for clients.
