The Cathaoirleach of Castlebar Municipal District has threatened to paint pedestrian crossings at two locations in the county town before the end of the year.

Independent councillor Michael  Kilcoyne says he has lobbied on a a number of occasions to have pedestrian crossings installed at the top of McHale road and at the Cathal Duffy roundabout, but so far to no avail.

He told the July monthly meeting of Castlebar Municipal District that if something is not done quickly, he will paint crossings at both locations himself.

The Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council, Castlebar based Blackie Gavin said he would assist Cathaoirleach Kilcoyne in the work,  if the matter is not resolved
