SIPTU staff in Section 39 organisations - including Rehab Ireland, Western Care in Mayo and Ability West in Galway - are to go on strike on 18th September, after talks on their claims for pay restoration collapsed yesterday.
The Fórsa trade union says it will also ballot its members in Section 39 organisations for industrial action, saying these community and voluntary sector workers suffered deep pay cuts during the recession.
The strike planned by SIPTU for Tuesday 18th September will initially involve a one-day stoppage, however, the union says further strikes may be announced in the near future.
SIPTU says a strike planned last February was deferred following an agreement between the parties that pay restoration would begin by the end of 2018, but this has not yet happened.
Talks on the issue at the Workplace Relations Commission yesterday broke down yesterday without agreement.
