After an attendance of about 17,000 people in Ballybrit yesterday for the Galway Plate, today is Ladies Day and Galway Hurdle Day - combining the best in racing and fashoin for the pinnacle of the Summer racing calendar.

Gates at the racecourse have been open since 11.30 with the style stalwarts arriving early to be seen by judges, in the hope of being invited to the Best Dressed marquee.

The winner of the Best Dressed Lady competition will receive a €10,000 prize, with a €2,000 prize for the Best Hat competition.

On the trace, the first of 8 races goes to post at 1.40, while the feature race today is the Guinness Galway Hurdle Handicap.
