The Gardai are appealing to all road users to take extra care when using the roads this August Bank Holiday weekend.

There will be an increase in traffic volumes on the country’s roads, with festivals and events due to take place over the course of the long weekend and therefore an increase in Garda patrols and checkpoints.

The Gardai are advising that there will be a road safety campaign in place which will include checks for driving while intoxicated, speeding, failure to wear seatbelts, use of mobile device, dangerous or careless driving and proper lighting of vehicles.

The objective of this campaign is to reduce road collisions, save lives and reduce injuries and to remind drivers of the dangers of speeding on roads.
