Extra speed checkpoints can be expected across the region tomorrow, as Gardai undertake another national Slow Down Day.

The 24-hour road safety speed initiative gets underway at 7am tomorrow morning, and the objective is to reduce the number of speed-related collisions, save lives and reduce injuries on Ireland's roads.

Supt. Noel Kelly of the Regional Roads Policing Unit says excessive speed is a major factor in many road collisions.
