Residents of Ashbourne Grove, located on the Killala road in Ballina, are without any public lighting in their estate for the past 18 months.
Local Fine Gael councillor John O’Hara raised the plight of the residents at the monthly meeting of Ballina Municipal District and he said it is a disgrace that householders who pay property tax (LPT) can be left without basic infrastructure.
He called on council management to intervene and assist the residents, however, council officials explained that the developer of the private estate has failed to engage sufficiently with them to begin the process of taking it in charge. At this stage, the estate is not the responsibility of the local authority.
Councillor O’Hara told Midwest News thata group of residents had come together and asked the local authority to take their estate in charge but he was not sure how far along that process this request now is.
