Mayo County Council has confirmed that work will start shortly on safety improvement measures close to Corrib Oil on the N5 Westport-Castlebar road.

A number of serious collisions have occurred at this location, and Westport-based Independent Councillor Christy Hyland has been campaiging, for some time, to have traffic calming measures installed.

Councillor Hyland raised the matter again at this week's meeting of the West Mayo Municipal District, where he was told that the TII - Transport Infrastructure Ireland- has allocated funds for safety improvement works at this spot, and the works will start - if not before Christmas - then shortly afterwards.
