Three Mayo communities have been nominated for the 2018 National Pride of Place Awards, which take place in Cork City Hall this Saturday night.

Balla, Erris Irish Wheelchair Association and the Céide Coast Community Tourism project have been nominated by Mayo County Council, and representatives from each group will travel to Cork for the results.

Judging in the all-island competition took place in August, with a site visit to each location which included a presentation by community representatives of their achievements, and tours of the key projects.

The Pride of Place Awards are organised annually by Co-Operation Ireland, IPB Insurance and local authorities, to acknowledge the work being done by local communities across the island of Ireland.
