A Mayo student has been named the overall winner of SciFest 2017 and will represent Ireland at the Intel International Science & Engineering Fair in Pittsburgh next year.
Aaron Hannon, a student at St Muredach’s College in Ballina, won the competition for his project EnableArm, which is a shaving device for people with limited hand dexterity.
The project was inspired by Aaron’s late grandfather, who suffered from limited hand movement due to a stroke.
It’s a fully-functional device, capable of shaving facial hair for people with limited use of their hands.
Aaron was presented with his award by Dr Ruth Freeman of Science Foundation Ireland, and he also won the Boston Scientific Grand award for his work.
This is the 10th year of the SciFest which saw a record number of over 10,000 students taking part across the country in the science, technology, engineering and maths initiative.
